In this session Ali follows the warm-up session with two of the signature AMT games, Mouse and Freeze, which are followed by the rhythm activities encouraging the participant to focus on the beats and clap them out, before using their body for dance movements to represent the rhythms. Following this energetic and stimulating section, participants are led by Ali to a mindfulness session to cool down.

What you can expect
Each Autism Movement Therapy® based session contains movement, dancing and activities including a warm up session, followed by some dance games, the main activities and then a cooling down session incorporating some mindfulness techniques. The sessions have a structured approach that stimulates the brain, aids sensory processing, develops communication and motor skills and supports challenges associated with autism, all while having fun! Clear instructions for the various activities are provided both verbally and using Makaton.

Who is it for?
Individuals aged 7 years and over with or without a diagnosis for Autism.

How can this session be used?
This session can be used by schools (both primary and secondary) in specialised groups / clubs and by parents /carers. A responsible adult needs to be present during the session and we would also recommend that when the session is used in a group situation, that there is a suitable ratio of responsible adults to the number of participants.

NOTES RE: HEALTH AND SAFETY

  • You should only participate if you are healthy enough to do so. Anyone who is pregnant or with a pre-existing medical condition should take advice from their medical practitioner.
  • A responsible adult must be in the room at all times during the session to ensure the health and safety of any children or vulnerable adults taking part.
  • You must make sure you are in a safe space free of trip hazards and obstructions to allow you to move around safely while being able to have a clear view of the screen to follow the teacher in the session.
