This Early Years Bundle comprises of two of our MovementWorks On Demand Sessions:
Developmental Dance Movement ' For the Holidays' with Hilary Palmer
Rhythm and Rhyme. 'Sounds and Words' with Sharon Thompson.
Who are they for?
Children with or without additional needs, aged 2 years and over.
How can they be used?
They can be used in Early Years settings (Nurseries, Childminders, Playgroups etc) Primary schools (Nursery, Reception, KS1), in various groups such as Parent and Toddler Groups and at home by Parents/Carers and Nannies. A responsible adult needs to be present during the sessions to support the child(ren) during the session with the various activities and we would also recommend that when the sessions are used with a group of young children, there is a suitable ratio of adults to children.
What to expect from the sessions
Each Developmental Dance Movement® based session contains music, singing and dancing starting with a warm up, followed by the main activities, then a cool down and ending with a craft activity. Clear instructions for the various activities are provided both verbally and using Makaton. You can find out more about DDM here.
About this session
Hilary guides the children as they ‘dance round the world, learning country names and practicing counting before visiting the zoo where they meet and move like various animals, and then ‘row’ home before cooling down with their favourite small soft toy. The session finishes with an optional craft activity where children (under the supervision of an adult) can make their own jellyfish.
Each Rhythm and Rhyme session is themed and full of activities aimed at younger children to support developing their numeracy, literacy and understanding of the world. They are engaging and packed with familiar songs and rhymes often accompanied by percussion instruments, puppets and toys with simple actions children can follow and join in so they have fun while they learn.
About this session
Sharon sings familiar nursery rhymes and songs accompanied by a variety of props, percussion instruments, toys and puppets to keep children engaged. Sharon also provides new wording to the well-known tunes, creating new rhymes and songs, helping children to expand they vocabulary, plus a small section incorporating numbers to support the recognition of numbers while counting.
